Police have asked music fans going to the Belladrum festival near Inverness to car share where possible.

The request was made as part of Northern Constabulary Supt Andy Cowie's safety message ahead of this weekend's performances.

He said: "There is adequate car parking available, but in the interests of the environment and congestion we would urge people to car share."

Bands Scouting for Girls and The Lemonheads will be performing.

Frightened Rabbit

Roads to Belladrum Estate on Friday and Saturday - the days of the festival - are expected to be extremely busy.

Supt Cowie said: "We would advise drivers to be patient and considerate.

"We will work to our tried and tested road traffic management plan which has been successful in previous years and hopefully delays will be kept to a minimum."

Combating drink and drug-related incidents were other priorities, police said.

Scouting for Girls, Idlewild and Frightened Rabbit will be among Friday's acts, while The Waterboys, Sons and Daughters and The Lemonheads will be playing on Saturday.
