Government called on in pay row

A union has called on the Scottish Government to step into a pay dispute involving firefighters.

Unite has agreed to call off a strike planned for Monday at nine Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) sites to allow for further talks.

However, industrial action is still proposed for 4 July.

Union members have rejected a 2% pay rise offered by HIAL, which is owned by the government. Leaders said firefighters deserve more.
