Man had sex with teenager in car

High Court in Edinburgh
The court heard Craigie met the girl in a play park

A man had underage sex with a teenage girl after contacting her through an internet social networking site, a court has heard.

Stanley Craigie, 31, from Maryhill, Glasgow, drove to the Highlands to meet the youngster at a play park before having sex with her in his car.

The High Court in Edinburgh was told the pair contacted each other via the internet on their mobile phones.

Judge Lord Uist deferred sentence for a background report.

He placed Craigie on the sex offenders register and continued bail.

Craigie drove up to see the girl in the Tain area of Ross-shire, and after meeting at a park, he later linked up with her again when she was out walking a dog.

The court heard he told police that her age was given as 16 on the networking site, but that he was informed by her that she was actually 14.

Advocate depute Alison Di Rollo said the accused "stated he deeply regretted what he had done and knew it was wrong".
