Fuel warning note sent to pilots

Pilots have been asked to refuel at their point of origin in an effort to help conserve reserves at Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) sites.

The message was suggested by Air BP to minimise the impact of possible fuel shortages on emergency and lifeline services.

HIAL confirmed the issuing of the notice, which covers the period until 24 May.

A spokesman said it was a precautionary measure to safeguard reserves.

HIAL runs airports on the Northern and Western Isles, the Highlands and Argyll.
