Praise for isle's creative centre

A new centre that will attempt to encourage creative and cultural industries has won praise from First Minister Alex Salmond.

Opening FAS on the Sabhal Mor Ostaig college campus on Skye, Mr Salmond said it created the right atmosphere to allow creative Scots to shine.

He also announced £260,000 of funding to support the work of the centre.

Of that figure, £200,000 will go to provide digital television production and post-production equipment.

The remaining £60,000 will support the college's plans to produce a Gaelic historical dictionary.
