Youth held as dead teenager named

A teenager who died after an incident in Inverness has been named by police as 17-year-old Joshua Mitchell.

Mr Mitchell was found seriously injured in the city's Carnac Crescent on Saturday evening. He was taken to Raigmore hospital, where he later died.

A 17-year-old man has been detained by police investigating the death.

The parents of Mr Mitchell said their son was "well loved by everyone who knew him". Floral tributes have been left at the scene by friends.

Northern Constabulary said unemployed Mr Mitchell, from Carnac Crescent, was found shortly before 1700 GMT on Saturday.

In a statement released through the force, his parents Andrew and Marilyn, said: "Joshua was a kind and gentle soul who was well loved by everyone who knew him.

"He will be deeply missed by his parents, his three brothers and everyone else who knew him.

"We are absolutely devastated. This was a senseless waste of a young life and we will miss him deeply."
