Council tax in Highlands frozen
Bank notes
The administration said previously it would freeze council tax
Highland Council has frozen council tax at last year's levels in setting its budget for 2008/09.

It means the mid range band D bill will stay at 1,163. The 586.6m budget gives the authority an extra 25.6m.

However, savings of 140,000 will have to be made in the coming financial year and a further 210,000 in 2009/10.

In a statement, the council said the savings would be sought through a "further rationalisation" of teaching posts.
