Extension to Gaelic news on web
BBC Alba's Naidheachdan site
BBC Alba's extended news in Gaelic section
BBC Alba has launched an extension to the news section of its website which will allow people to access online stories in Gaelic daily.

Stories from the Highlands and Islands will be given primacy.

The site will also welcome stories and pictures from contributors and there will also be regularly updated weather reports from areas across Scotland.

This is the first time that entire news stories will be published online on a daily basis in the Gaelic language.

BBC Alba hope that both native speakers and learners of Gaelic will use and contribute to the section.

'Excellent resource'

The BBC Gaelic team has worked with BBC Scotland News online in Glasgow and the BBC World Service in London to deliver the new service.

BBC Alba's assistant news editor, Maggie MacKinnon, said: "We're very pleased to be able to extend our news website and I am sure that our pages will make an excellent resource for the Gaelic audience and those with an interest in Gaelic language and culture.

"This site will feature stories that are not available on any other website in the world, and will reflect the changes and developments in those stories as they happen."
