Police are close to concluding an investigation into the death of an army cadet who died when her boat capsized in a sea loch in the Western Isles.

Kaylee McIntosh, 14, from Fyvie, Aberdeenshire, had been on an exercise in Loch Carnan, South Uist, in August.

In a report to a joint police board, Northern Constabulary Chief Constable Ian Latimer said conclusions would be submitted in the "very near future".

Kaylee was a member of the 2nd Battalion Highlanders Army Cadet Force.

She was among a group of eight cadets and four adults on the boat.

It later emerged there may have been a delay of 90 minutes between the accident and the teenager being reported missing.

Her death was described as a "terrible and tragic incident" by Defence Secretary Des Browne.
