A Canadian government minister is to officially open the Royal National Mod in Lochaber.

Len Goucher, minister for tourism, culture and heritage with the Nova Scotia Provincial Government, will perform the ceremony on Friday.

Fort William is hosting the 104th Gaelic Mod, with competitions in song and music.

Event organisers said Mr Goucher's visit underlines the close links between Scotland and Nova Scotia.

Linda Fabiani, Scottish Government minister for Gaelic, will also be attending the opening.
