Female fiscal 'attacked in court'
Inverness Sheriff Court sign
Mr Shewan was appearing in private at the court
A prisoner has been arrested after a female procurator fiscal was allegedly attacked in court.

Michael Shewan, 31, was appearing before Sheriff Derek Pyle at Inverness Sheriff Court when fiscal depute Alison Smith is said to have been attacked.

Mr Shewan had been making an appearance in private on a series of housebreaking charges when the incident is alleged to have taken place.

The accused was led from the courtroom and taken to cells.

He later appeared again in the same courtroom with a different fiscal taking the case.

Mr Shewan was fully committed for trial in relation to the housebreaking charges and was remanded in custody.

He was also in custody and being interviewed in relation to the alleged assault on the depute fiscal.

A police spokeswoman said: "Northern Constabulary are currently investigating the alleged assault of a woman at Inverness Sheriff Court. No further details are being released."
