Three males have been arrested in connection with a major fire at a disused hospital in Inverness.

Northern Constabulary said the three accused would appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

The charges relate to a fire at the former Craig Dunain Hospital on 15 September.

About 40 firefighters and six appliances spent 12 hours fighting the blaze, which broke out in the early hours of the morning.

The building in the Leachkin area of the city had been empty for some time, and was being refurbished.

The roof and floor of the central area of the building collapsed, leaving chimney stacks unstable and in danger of falling.

Fences were put up around the building to keep people at a safe distance.

Police said they do not believe at this stage that there is any connection between the Craig Dunain incident and a fire at another listed building in the city - the former youth hostel - which broke out a few days later.
