A mother has given birth to a baby in her car for a second time.

Wendy Hay, 29, and fiancé David Bernard, 30, were rushing to hospital on the A9 in the Highlands under police escort when her waters broke.

By the time officers pulled over she had given birth to the so-far unnamed baby girl.

Two years ago, Ms Hay gave birth to Arabella in the same Vauxhall Astra in the driveway of their home in Newton Grange, Dalkeith.

Four years ago they had only just made it to hospital when their first child Lochlann was born.

The family were on holiday when Ms Hay went into labour for the third time and Mr Bernard flagged down two Northern Constabulary traffic police officers carrying out routine duties on the A9 near Kingussie.

They were on their way to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness when she gave birth.

Mr Bernard said: "I really wanted Wendy to hold on because we had been told by our midwife that the baby was in a breach and I knew there could be complications which meant we needed to be in hospital.

"But there was no stopping the wee one and she was out before the officers could park up."
