Families asked for business plans

Families on a whittled down shortlist will be asked to visit in March

Families vying for the chance of a new life on a Scottish island are drawing up business plans detailing how they would support themselves.

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) advertised last year for new residents for Canna after the population dropped to 15 inhabitants.

Sixteen families from the 350 who applied are still in the running.

Six will be chosen and invited to visit Canna, south west of Skye, before the final two are selected in March.

Remote island

They will then be asked to move into two rented properties in the summer.

NTS said the business plans will help to determine which of those on the shortlist are most aware of what is involved in living on a remote island.

The chance to move to Canna attracted interest from people from across the UK as well as Dubai, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Australia and the US.
