Young beaver makes its TV debut

A baby beaver born in the Highlands has become a television star.

The youngster, which is called a kit, was featured on the BBC's new programme The One Show presented by Adrian Chiles and Nadia Sawalha this week.

It was born at Aigas Field Centre, Beauly, Inverness-shire, in June. Two adult Eurasian beavers were introduced to the centre in April.

Wild beavers were wiped out in Scotland more than 400 years ago. There is a campaign to have them re-introduced.

The large mammals were hunted for their fur pelts.

Beaver families live in a lodge, a large pile of branches in a middle of lake. The animals access it by diving to an entrance underwater.
