A 49-year-old man has appeared court in Inverness charged with murdering a woman and concealing her body.

Ilene O'Conner, 39, had been missing for a fortnight when her remains were discovered by police forensic teams.

Brian Grant, from Inverness, was accused of murdering her by striking her repeatedly on the head and body.

Mr Grant was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by concealing her body. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Police officers searching for Ms O'Connor said on Sunday that they had found human remains in the garden of a house in Kintail Court, Inverness.
