Police name 'pipe attack' woman
Police have named an American tourist who was seriously hurt in an incident in the Abriachan area of Inverness.

The 57-year-old woman is Marty Lee Layman-Mendonca, a teacher from Vermont.

Her condition has been described by staff at Raigmore Hospital as "critical but stable".

Colin Ross, 34, of Waterloo Place, Inverness, has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder her with a metal pipe.

Northern Constabulary have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which took place some time between 1000 BST and 1830 BST on Wednesday.
