Police have released the names of a husband and wife found dead at their East Dunbartonshire home following a shooting incident.

James Harley, 51, and his 47-year-old wife, Diane, were found in their house in St Andrew's Avenue, Bishopbriggs, at about 1945 GMT on Tuesday.

The couple are thought to have a teenage son and daughter.

Police are not looking for anyone in connection with the incident, which is believed to have been domestic.

A statement from Strathclyde Police said: "Around 1945 hours on Tuesday 16 March, the bodies 47-year-old Diane Harley and her husband, James Harley, aged 51, were discovered within their home in St Andrews Avenue, Bishopbriggs.

"Relatives have been informed and post mortems will be carried out in due course."

Det Insp Stephen Grant added: "We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths of Mr and Mrs Harley.

"I would like to reassure members of the local community that this incident poses no risk or danger to anyone else."

Detectives are working on the theory that one of the couple shot the other before taking their own life. Both had suffered gunshot injuries and a weapon was recovered from the scene.

Taxi driver Mr Harley, 51, and his wife had previously worked for the Edinburgh-based security business Rock Steady.

A spokesman for G4S Events, which took over Rock Steady in 2008, confirmed Mr and Mrs Harley had both previously been employed by the stewarding company.

He added: "Mr Harley left Rock Steady in 1995 prior to the acquisition by G4S, however, Mrs Harley continued to work for the company and was consequently employed by G4S Events.

"G4S extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Mr and Mrs Harley at this very difficult time."

Neighbour Bill Kerr, 56, said: "They were very much a family. Both of their children are still at school. They have been here for 15 years or more.

"They were very nice. I found out when I came home last night that something had happened. It is a very big shock as it's a close-knit community here."

A 73-year-old neighbour described Mr and Mrs Harley as a "lovely couple".

He said: "I am really shocked. I have never known any hassle around here. It is very quiet.

"Last night I counted seven police officers plus three forensic people. An ambulance came around 3am this morning.

"I didn't see him around that much but he was a taxi driver. He didn't talk much in the street but they were a very nice couple."

Another neighbour, who also did not want to be named, said: "It is a shock to have something like this happen in the street. It's very quiet normally.

"They seemed quite a happy family, with a teenage girl and boy. I never heard of anything going on at all, they seemed quite normal."
