Police investigating a gangland murder in Glasgow want to trace the driver of a van which was seen in the area where the getaway vehicle was set on fire.

Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll, 29, was shot dead in the Asda car park in Saughs Road, Robroyston, on 13 January.

The Volkswagen Golf used in the murder was found burned out in Yetts Hole Road, Glenmavis, North Lanarkshire.

Police said a white Ford transit van was seen on Yetts Hole Road at the same time as the Volkswagen was set on fire.

The vehicle is described as having a short wheel base, with low roof and a square-shaped beacon at the rear of the roof. It is believed to be a 2000 to 2006 model.

Det Sup Michael Orr, of Strathclyde Police, said: "We are keen to speak to whoever was driving this transit van on the afternoon of Wednesday 13 January.

"The driver may be able to assist us in our enquiries and I would urge whoever was in the van to come forward.

"I would also ask anyone who saw this van in or around the area to get in touch."

Mr Carroll, who had alleged links to organised crime in Glasgow, had survived two previous attempts on his life.

The firearms used in his murder were found behind Coatbridge Library in North Lanarkshire.

Two masked men, who are believe to have carried out the shooting, made off in the dark blue Volkswagen Golf which was driven by a third man. The vehicle had the registration number YF55 EZZ.

The vehicle, missing the number plates, was recovered burned out in Yetts Hole Road.
