Police are trying to establish a motive for the abductions

Three men are being sought by police after two teenagers were abducted in a van in Ayrshire on Tuesday.

Police said four males, aged between 16 and 18, were walking in Tourhill Road, Kilmarnock, when two men jumped from a white van and threw one of them inside.

A third man then appeared and chased the other teenagers before grabbing one of them and throwing him into the van.

One of the teenagers later escaped from the van. The other was released a short time later.

Police said the incident happened at about 1530 GMT on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old managed to escape from the van after it stopped in Meilklewood Road, Onthank. The 18-year-old was released in the Hurlford area.

'Unusual circumstances'

Det Insp Neil Robertson, from Strathclyde Police, said officers were trying to establish a motive for the abduction.

"There seem to have been a number of males involved in this incident but until we re-interview the victims, we are unable to provide details of how many were involved or descriptions," he said.

"The victims were relatively unharmed and no attempt was made to rob them. We have yet to clarify the motive for this unusual set of circumstances and will be pursuing all lines of enquiry."

Det Insp Robertson asked anyone who may have information about the incident to contact police.
