Mr Armstrong had been acting chief executive since October

Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) has appointed Martin Armstrong as its new chief executive. Mr Armstrong replaces Taroub Zahran, who stood down earlier this year following disagreements over the speed of housing stock transfers. He will take up the post on a permanent basis after being acting chief executive since October. Mr Armstrong said he was determined to help create "better homes, better communities and better lives". GHA tenant chairwoman Sandra Forsythe said Mr Armstrong had been the unanimous choice of the GHA board as the person "best suited to lead us through this next, very important phase in our history". Ms Zahran and GHA vice chairman Fred Shedden both resigned with immediate effect in August. It is understood they left over disagreements with the Scottish government and Glasgow City Council over the intended handover of its stock to smaller housing organisations. GHA, which has about 60,000 tenants, took over social housing from Glasgow City Council in 2002.
