Attack on man 'attempted murder'

Police are treating an attack on a man in Inverclyde as attempted murder.

The 31-year-old was assaulted during a disturbance at a flat in Greenock at about 0020 GMT on Tuesday.

He sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where his condition was described as stable.

Det Sg Scott McCallum, of Strathclyde Police, appealed for anyone with information about the incident to "come forward as a matter of urgency".
