A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged armed robbery and an attempted robbery in Lanarkshire.

A five-figure sum of cash was stolen in a raid on security guards at a cash machine in Airdrie earlier this week.

Police said a silver BMW involved may also have been used in an attempted robbery at the Post Office in Hamilton on Friday.

The man has been detained in connection with both incidents.

A full report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

He was expected to appear Airdrie Sheriff Court later.
