Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery

An armed robbery at a pharmacy in South Lanarkshire is being linked to a raid on a video store at the weekend, police have said.

A female member of staff at Boots pharmacy on Low Waters Road in Hamilton was threatened by a man with what appeared to be a firearm at 1920 GMT.

The robber escaped with a three-figure sum of money.

Police said the incident could be linked to a robbery at the Video Drive-In in Hamilton on Sunday evening.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5ft 9in to 6ft tall, slim build and was wearing a white hooded top and blue denims.

Det Con Norman Laurie said: "This was a frightening experience for the young woman, who thankfully hasn't been injured, although she is naturally extremely shaken."

"It is early stages of the enquiry and we have officers searching the area in an effort to trace the suspect. I would however urge members of the public who saw anyone behaving in a suspicious manner this evening to contact us."
