New Venice service from Glasgow

Punta della Dogana in Venice, Italy
Venice is becoming increasingly popular with Scottish holiday makers

Direct weekly flights from Glasgow Airport to the Italian city of Venice will begin next year.

Travel agent, Barrhead Travel, has announced it will offer the service as flights only or as part of a Mediterranean cruise.

The new route, which will run from May until the end of September, will be operated by the BMI group.

Barrhead Travel said it recognised a gap in the Scottish market for direct flights to Venice.

Bill Munro, chairman of Barrhead Travel, said: "Venice is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination, however it has not been easy to get to from Glasgow.

"Therefore, I am confident that this route is going to be hugely popular with our customers".
