Boy arrested over woman's death

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Airdrie last weekend.

Jeannie Smith, 41, died following a disturbance involving about 20 people in Oronsay Road, where she lived, on Saturday 31 October.

The 16-year-old is being held in custody. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Two other youths, aged 14 and 17, have also been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with the incident.

The trouble started in a park area in Airdrie's Calderglen Court and spilled into nearby Oronsay Road.

Mrs Smith was rushed to Monklands General Hospital, where she died.

Several other people were injured in the incident.
