Police name road accident victim

A pensioner who died after being knocked down by a car in North Lanarkshire has been named.

Peter Wyper Houston, 71, was hit by the Ford Fiesta as he crossed Old Edinburgh Road, Viewpark, where he lived, at 1720 GMT on Thursday.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said he had suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.

Police appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or who was in the area at the time to contact them.
