Matches off after traffic chaos

Traffic jam on
The traffic jam caused lengthy tailbacks on the M8

Two football matches were called off after team buses became stuck in a massive traffic jam on the M8.

The Kilmarnock and Stranraer teams were travelling to their games against Hearts and Berwick when they got caught up in the chaos caused by a lorry fire.

The whole of the eastbound carriageway of the motorway was closed following the blaze near Shotts, causing lengthy tailbacks.

The Kilmarnock v Hearts game will now be played at 1945 BST on Tuesday.

The fire was in the area of junction 5, Kirk of Shotts, and diversions were set up.
