Teenager dies after village crash

A 17-year-old youth has died after the car he was driving struck a lamppost in the village of Ravenstruther in South Lanarkshire.

Graham Gauld, from Carnwath, was driving south on Ayr Road at about 1735 BST on Wednesday when he lost control of his vehicle.

He was taken to Wishaw General hospital and then transferred to Monklands hospital where he later died.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

A full report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
