Soldier dies after pick-up crash

A soldier from Glasgow has died in hospital after his pick-up truck crashed in the Highlands.

The accident happened at about 0510 BST on Sunday on the B9152 Kingussie to Aviemore road.

Scott Bain, 21, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Police said he died from his injuries at 1115 BST on Monday. The accident happened while he was on leave from his regiment based in Germany.

He was serving with The Highlanders, 4th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The battalion is based at St Barbara Barrack's Barracks near Fallingbostel.

Mr Bain's twin brother, Lee, plays for Inverness-shire shinty club Strathglass.

He scored the opening goal in the team's 5-1 win over Kinlochsheil to win the Balliemore Cup Final on Saturday.
