Body in burn police found hammer

The trial of a woman accused of killing her mother has heard that a hammer and what looked like blood spots were found in the dead woman's home.

Police also recovered wire at Anne Brown's house in Ayrshire, similar to that found on her body when it was recovered from a burn.

Lisa Brown, 21, and her boyfriend John Wilson, 25, deny murdering Mrs Brown in Laigh Gree, Burnhouse, last October.

They also deny dumping her body in Clerkland Burn in North Ayrshire.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that police searched the former nurse's house after her remains were recovered from water near Craignaught Farm.

Det Sgt Alexander Nelson told the jury that he found what he believed was blood on the floor of a room.

He said he also found spots on a bath, shower head and a tap. Police then recovered a small hammer in the hallway of the house.

Metal wire

The jury heard that detectives then continued their search outside the property.

Prosecutor Gary Allan QC asked: "In a wooden shed, anything of interest?"

DS Nelson: "A roll of metal wire that was there. It was wire similar to that which was recovered from the body."

Other items were recovered, including two more hammers in a garage, as well as four gloves and ladies shoes found in a wheelie bin.

It is claimed that Lisa Brown and John Wilson struck Mrs Brown on the head and body with a blunt object or objects and that her daughter had previously "evinced malice and ill-will towards her".

Ms Brown and Mr Wilson are then alleged to have attempted to defeat the ends of justice by disposing of her body in the burn.

They are also accused of washing a quantity of bloodstained clothing which they wore at the time of the alleged attack.

The trial, before Judge Lord Matthews, continues.
