Two men have escaped with a five-figure sum of cash after an armed robbery in Renfrewshire on Wednesday.

The men targeted G4 Security staff at the Bank of Scotland, Neilston Road, Paisley, at about 2155 BST.

They forced their way into the building and threatened the security staff with what appeared to be a firearm.

Police said the pair fled the scene in a silver Audi estate car, driven by a third person. Officers have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Det Sgt Jerry O'Hanlon, of Strathclyde Police, said: "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in or around the area of the Halifax Bank of Scotland in Neilston Road last night to contact us.

"Also, I would urge anyone who may have seen a silver Audi parked in a nearby street or car park to come forward.

"However insignificant it may seem, they may hold information which could help lead us to those responsible."

The silver Audi was last seen to enter Calside in Paisley. No description of the suspects was available.
