Det Ch Insp Neil Thomson says a "brave" member of the public was shot at
Police have appealed for information after a man was abducted in Lanarkshire in the early hours of Saturday.
The 24-year-old was forced from his home in High Blantyre and driven away at about 0030 BST. He was later released unharmed in the Lenzie area.
A member of the public who heard the commotion was shot at, after following the suspects to a nearby underpass in his own car. He was uninjured.
Police are treating the incident as abduction and attempted murder.
The man, who was abducted from his house in the West Craigs area of High Blantyre, was driven away in a light metallic coloured car.
'Heroic actions'
The man who was shot at followed the three male suspects to an underpass near the A725 at Blantyre, near an on ramp to the East Kilbride expressway.
Det Ch Insp Neil Thomson, who is leading the investigation, said: "Fortunately, the 24-year-old man was released unhurt and he is now assisting police in the investigation.
"However, it is only due to good fortune that the member of the public, who tried to assist, was not seriously injured or even killed for his heroic actions.
"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the man being forcibly removed from his home or the incident in which the firearm was discharged at the vehicle to come forward as a matter of urgency."
