Men's bodies found on Argyll loch

Rescuers at the loch
The Loch Awe search was hampered by the lack of a rescue boat

Two bodies, believed to be two men who died in a boating accident 10 weeks ago, have been found on an Argyll loch.

The remains were recovered by police divers after fishermen spotted them at the edge of a small island on Loch Awe.

They have not been formally identified but Strathclyde Police believed they were those of Steven Carty, 42 and 36-year-old Thomas Douglas.

They were among four men who died when they fell from a small boat in the early hours of 21 March.

The bodies of Steven Carty's brother William, 47, and a friend Craig Currie, 30, were recovered soon after the accident.

The men regularly visited the loch to go fishing and had crossed to a nearby hotel after setting up their tents.

A fifth man who stayed behind raised the alarm when they failed to return.

Rescuers could hear the men shouting for help but were unable to see them in the mist.

A rigid inflatable rescue boat was sent by road from Renfrew but by the time it arrived the shouts had stopped.

The Scottish Government has since ordered a review of rescue procedures on inland waters
