Police investigating three murders on Sunday have said they were not linked to vital end of season football matches involving the Old Firm.

The first victim, a 17-year-old, died after an incident in Drakemire Drive, Castlemilk, Glasgow, at about 0300 BST.

Later Robert Currie, 20, died following a disturbance in Dumbarton at about 1455 BST and Kieran Crawford, 22, died after an incident in north Glasgow.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of Mr Currie.

Football matches

He is due to appear in Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Strathclyde Police are treating all three cases as murder but have not linked them to Sunday's football matches which could have seen Celtic or Rangers become league champions.

Rangers won the SPL title after beating Dundee Utd away 3-0, while Celtic could only draw with Hearts at home.

Det Supt Michael Orr said: "None of these incidents, as far as we know, are linked to the football yesterday or in fact to each other."

He said the force was also investigating a number of assaults, serious assaults and two attempted murders.

A man is expected to appear in court on Tuesday over the murder of Mr Currie, from Dumbarton, who died in hospital after being found seriously injured in Auchenreoch Avenue.

The 17-year-old boy who was killed in the Castlemilk has not yet been named.

The teenager received fatal wounds at a house in Drakemire Drive.

Police are also investigating the death of 22-year-old Kieran Crawford in the Germiston area of north east Glasgow.

He suffered serious injuries in a disturbance involving about 15 people in Forge Street, at about 1715 BST.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

A 28-year-old man was also injured and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. His condition was described as serious but stable.

Det Supt Orr told BBC Scotland that having three murders in the space of 24 hours was "absolutely tragic".

He said: "We have three incident rooms running from three offices in the force and a high number of officers engaged in the investigations."
