Det Insp John Mellon of Strathclyde Police appeals for information

Detectives hunting a man who shot a woman in the throat exactly a year ago have issued a new sketch of a man they want to trace.

A 47-year-old financial adviser spent weeks in intensive care after she was shot by a lone gunman in Glasgow's Chinatown area.

Police want to identify a white man, aged in his 40s with a Scottish accent, seen nearby shortly before the attack.

Police said they had yet to establish a motive for the shooting.

Det Insp John Mellon of Strathclyde Police said: "She was going about her normal business. She is a wife, a mother and we can find no reason why she should have been the intended victim."

'A fighter'

He said the only known link with the Chinese community was the location of the shooting. Both the victim and the man police want to trace were white Caucasians.

"She is still coming to terms with what happened to her. Her quality of life is never going to be as it was prior to this incident," he said.

"She is a fighter but still suffering greatly from this attack."

Det Insp Mellon urged people who were in the area at the time to try to remember anything that could help the investigation.

"Put yourself in this woman's position and the family's position and assist us in identifying this man," he said.

"If anybody can give us an indication as to who this man is, I would urge them to give us a call."
