Teenager held over death of man

Murder scene
Raymond Black's body was found at his house in Carluke

A teenager has been arrested after a man was found dead at his home in Lanarkshire while his two-year-old daughter slept upstairs.

Officers discovered the body of Raymond Black at his house in Unitas Crescent, Carluke, at about 0105 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said the 48-year-old's car had been involved in an alleged hit-and-run incident at 0015 GMT the same night.

The 19-year-old man is expected to appear at Lanark Sheriff Court on Thursday.

The crash involving the Citroen Xsara estate took place at Glenburn Terrace, Carluke.

Police discovered Mr Black's body when they called at his address in relation to the incident.

His daughter was found safe and well within the house.

Neighbour Diane Fraser, who lived across the road from Mr Black, told the BBC Scotland news website she was shocked when she heard he had been killed.

She said: "He was a very quiet man, a nice man. I just feel for his family.

"It is terrifying to think it happened on this street. I am not sleeping, I won't let my daughters go outside and I am keeping the door locked."

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "I have lived here for more than 20 years and this area has really gone downhill. There are break-ins all the time, and vandalism, and there is a problem with drugs.

"I did not know the dead man well. He only moved to the area four or five months ago but he always said 'hello' when I passed him on the street."
