Pensioner's hip broken in robbery

A 91-year-old woman was left with a broken hip after a robber burst into her home in Glasgow and escaped with her handbag.

It happened when the woman answered the front door of her house in Crow Road North at about 1640 GMT on Thursday.

The robber broke the security chain, forced his way in, and pushed the pensioner to the ground, fracturing her hip.

Police said it was a "despicable attack on an elderly lady."

The suspect was described as a white male with a Glasgow accent. He was wearing a dark hooded top.

The elderly lady was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary Glasgow where she was being treated for her injury. Her condition was said to be "stable".

Det Con John Quinn of Strathclyde Police said: "This elderly lady was left with a broken hip and was badly shaken up following her experience.

"I would appeal for anyone with information that may assist my enquiries to come forward - in particular, members of the public who were in the area at the time and who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously."
