The proposed hotel development could create up to 70 hospitality jobs

Plans for a £20m hotel development in East Kilbride have been submitted to South Lanarkshire Council.

English-based developer Heritage London & Hanover (HLH) wants to build a 132-bedroom complex on land to the east of Redwood Drive at Peel Park.

If it gets the go-ahead the hotel could create up to 70 new hospitality jobs.

It was also estimated about 120 jobs could be created while construction work is carried out. The proposals were submitted to planners in December.

David Jason of HLH said: "East Kilbride has been identified as lacking in hotel accommodation for business travellers and this proposed Park Inn will help address the deficiency.

"We anticipate that given the current downturn there will be a great deal of local enthusiasm to see this project advanced swiftly.

"The significant investment will create local job opportunities, further complementary business opportunities and strengthen the existing business park."
