Motorists stopped in murder probe

Doublet bar in Clydebank
Mr Boland was found seriously injured near the Doublet bar

Hundreds of pedestrians and motorists have been stopped and questioned by police investigating the murder of a man in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire.

Paul Boland was found seriously injured outside the Doublet Bar, in Milldam Road, at about 2125 GMT on 13 December.

The 28-year-old, who was from the town's Miller Street, died at the scene a short time later.

Detectives and uniform officers staged the operation on Saturday between 2030 and 2130 GMT.

Det Ch Insp Ricky Mason, of Strathclyde Police, said the exercise was "a worthwhile operation".

He added: "I am encouraged with the positive response which officers received from the 367 motorists and pedestrians they spoke to on Saturday evening.

"A number of those people who were interviewed have provided us with new information which will be scrutinised by officers - information which we hope will help us move forward with this inquiry."

Before the operation police said they did not believe that Mr Boland had been within the Doublet Bar.

They revealed that his car, a black BMW X5, had been found burned out on 14 December in Queens View on the road to Croftamie.

Det Ch Insp Mason described this as "very significant" and said forensic teams were examining the vehicle.
