Appeal after attempted abduction

Officers from the Strathclyde force have conducted door-to-door inquiries

Police have appealed for witnesses after a man tried to abduct a boy in East Kilbride.

The 12-year-old was walking home from school at about 1610 GMT on Monday when the man approached him in a silver car, on Severn Road in the Gardenhall area.

He told the boy that his mother had sent him to pick him up and tried to persuade him to get into the vehicle.

The boy ran home and told his parents, who called the police. CCTV is being examined from the area, police said.

Officers from the Strathclyde force carried out a full search and conducted door-to-door inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Craig Willison said: "Naturally this was a terrifying ordeal for the young boy to experience, particularly given the fact there has been several reports of these types of incidents in the Strathclyde area recently.

"The boy did the right thing by immediately running home and alerting his parents, and thankfully he was unharmed.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw a man in a silver saloon in the Gardenhall area on Monday afternoon - particularly in Severn Road near to the Spar shop."
