Police in prostitution crackdown

Complaints from businesses and residents in Aberdeen have prompted a four-day police crackdown on prostitution and anti-social behaviour.

Grampian Police said eight women were charged with prostitution offences and two men were charged with kerb crawling following the city centre operation.

It came after complaints from businesses and residents in Adelphi, Market Street and Union Street.

Three of the women were kept in custody for court, a police statement said.

Pc Julie Britton said: "There is a commitment to provide a sustained and focused approach to tackle and reduce prostitution and related offences on the city centre streets of Aberdeen.

"This operation will provide re-assurance to those members of the public living and working in the area that we have been listening to their complaints and are taking positive action to improve the area in terms of ant-social behaviour and prostitution."
