'Mummy' sought over street attack

Police believe up to 20 people were involved in the incident

Police investigating an "unprovoked" street attack in East Dunbartonshire at the weekend have said the main suspect was dressed in a "mummy" costume.

Two men, aged 39 and 16, were seriously assaulted by a large group of people in New Lairdsland Road, Kirkintilloch, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

They were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they were treated for their injuries.

Some of the 15 to 20 people involved in the attack were in Halloween costumes.

Police said the main suspect was dressed in a "mummy costume" and no further descriptions were available.

Det Con Daniel Connor, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This appears to be an unprovoked and violent attack on two men who were making their way home after a night out.

"We are working to try and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

"Unfortunately, at this time we have little information on any of the suspects as most of them were dressed in costumes for Halloween.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the attack or noticed a large group of people in fancy dress costumes on New Lairdsland Road to contact us."
