About 150 plants were discovered at the house in Shotts

Police have recovered £43,000 worth of drugs at a cannabis factory in Shotts in North Lanarkshire.

Officers discovered 150 cannabis plants during a raid on a house in Vennachar Street at about 1045 BST on Saturday.

Strathclyde police said enquiries were ongoing to trace the person responsible.

Det Insp Brian Dodd said: "We are satisfied yet another cultivation has been prevented from hitting our streets."

The force is leading Operation League, a national operation targeting those involved in the cultivation of cannabis.

Det Insp Dodd added: "I would like to remind the local community about the dangers of these cultivations and urge anyone to report any suspicious activity.

"As well as the criminality involved, there is a serious threat to public health and safety due to the risk of fire."
