Digital media location launched

The DMQ is on a five-hectare site at the Pacific Quay area of Glasgow

The digital media quarter (DMQ) has been launched in Glasgow's Pacific Quay area, providing a dedicated base for Scotland's digital media industries.

The five-hectare riverside location, which has been developed by Scottish Enterprise, is home to BBC Scotland, SMG and the Glasgow Science Centre.

Shed Productions, the production firm behind Footballers' Wives and Bad Girls, will move to the DMQ next year.

The Glasgow School of Art's Digital Design Studio also moves there in 2009.

The digital media and creative industries in Scotland are worth about £2.8bn to the Scottish economy and employ an estimated 100,000 people.

Adrian Gillespie, from Scottish Enterprise, said: "The DMQ project is aimed at bringing together digital media content developers, broadcasters and publishers, communication technology companies, research and development institutions and related technologies working across the media."
