Armed police in motorway incident

Two men have been arrested following an early morning incident involving armed police officers on the M77 motorway.

The incident started with a call to police saying that a taxi had been stolen in Girvan, Ayrshire, and that the suspects may have been armed.

The vehicle was later surrounded on the northbound carriageway of the M77, north of Fenwick, at about 0750 BST.

No firearms were recovered and two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
