A 16-year-old has admitted carrying out a series of sex attacks on women in Glasgow in less than three hours.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Robert Thomson admitted eight charges, including indecent assault and assault to injury with intent to rape.

The court heard how Thomson, who was 15 at the time of the attacks, was caught after police released a CCTV image.

Lord Turnbull deferred sentence for reports and placed Thomson on the sex offenders register.

The court heard that the majority of the attacks, which took place on 5 June, were sex assaults and that his victims were all aged between 20 and 35.

In one case Thomson forced his victim to the ground, put his hand over her mouth and lay on top of her simulating sex as she struggled to breathe.

'Unusual case'

In another, he grabbed a woman round the neck at Cowcaddens subway station underpass before fondling her and pushing her over.

Another of his victims bit the teenager in a desperate attempt to try and get away from him.

When interviewed, Thomson told police he could not remember some of the attacks.

Defence counsel Mark Stewart QC said: "This is clearly an unusual case."

He said Thomson, a first offender, had recently left school and had been a member of the RAF cadets.

"He is someone who still harbours ambitions to serve in the Royal Air Force," he said.

Thomson will continue to be held at the Kibble secure care facility in Paisley, Renfrewshire, while reports are carried out for the court.
