Death crash man named by police

Police are trying to establish the circumstances of the crash

Police have named a 23-year-old man who died in a car crash near Ardrossan on Saturday morning.

The crash, involving a Citroen Saxo and a Nissan Micra, happened on the A78 Ardrossan to Seamill Road at 0945 BST.

Darren Byres, from Stevenston, who was a passenger in the Citroen, died at the scene. The 34-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.

Another passenger in the Citroen, an 18-year-old man, and the 71-year-old male driver of the Micra were injured.

They were taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock following the crash but their injuries were not thought to be life threatening

Strathclyde Police officers are trying to establish the circumstances of the crash and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
