The Tiree Wave Classic is expected to attract more than 700 people

Some of the world's best windsurfers will be heading back to Scotland in October for the Tiree Wave Classic.

Organisers confirmed that this year's event, which has a prize fund of £5,000, will run from 11 to 18 October.

The annual challenge, which has been running since 1986, attracts more than 700 visitors to the Hebridean island and is worth about £1m to the economy.

Other activities taking place include cliff jumping, kitesurfing, blo-karting and zapcat racing.

Tourism Minister Jim Mather said: "The event showcases Argyll & Bute and Scotland as a location for international events.

"It brings together sportsmen and women from around the world and gives them a chance to experience the magic of Argyll and the islands."
