A Glasgow-based company has won a deal to provide power for the construction of the London 2012 Olympic Village.

Aggreko made the announcement after completing a £22m contract to supply power to 37 venues at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The firm said the deal in China had contributed £9.7m to its half-year revenue of £407m, an increase of 28%.

About 150 Aggreko staff have been in China for several weeks installing about 480km of cable.

Equipment was used to power lighting and camera equipment in the stadia, as well as powering the international broadcasting centre.

Chairman Philip Rogerson said: "We now anticipate that Aggreko's performance for the year will exceed current market expectations."

Aggreko was founded in 1962 in the Netherlands and demerged from Salvesen Group in 1997 to become a listed company on the London Stock Exchange.

It now has a presence in 29 countries and employs more than 2,200 people.
